A Fine Mess

What first appears to be an unnatural cacophony of shape and colour becomes a reframed understanding of our human behaviour. The elements, discovered on the Tamaki path, highlight our relationship with the environment in this age of discard and disregard.

This micro-landscape was captured in a simple booth, with LED lighting on the ultimate symbol of consumerism, the iPhone - itself a midden of our zeitgeist. Although virtually un-edited, this piece is presented as a highly processed and ‘filtered’ story, to be viewed for a moment, then filed into an ever expanding camera roll of moments, barely acknowledged.

Through reframing trash as treasure, A Fine Mess aims to create an insight into the ability of art to reframe our relationship with the environment, and our everyday experiences.

This work was a finalist in the Estuary Art Awards 2020.
