Hello

Thanks for checking out my work. I'm Bobbie Gray, and I'm a visual artist based in Auckland, New Zealand. What really drives my practice is sustainability, I love to breathe new life into salvaged materials, exploring how we connect with nature, objects, and each other, all while keeping our planet in mind.

Bio

Bobbie Gray is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Her practice moves between sculpture, installation, and painting, often using salvaged and diverted materials to explore how we relate to nature, objects, and each other, with a strong focus on environmental responsibility.

While widely recognised for immersive light-based installations, she also creates material-focused sculptures and paintings that reflect on ecological systems, perception, and human connection. She works primarily with plastics diverted from the waste stream, transforming them into intricate forms that reimagine the natural world through a synthetic lens and highlight the potential of discarded resources.

Her installations surface what’s usually hidden, whether magnifying borer trails in heritage timber or turning single-use plastics into luminous native flora, directly addressing waste and promoting circularity. By playing with scale and context, she invites viewers to reconsider their place within ecological, historical, and social systems, encouraging a more mindful relationship with materials and our environment.

Bobbie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Whitecliffe College of Art & Design (2017), and her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in the UK, Tunisia, Ukraine, and Iran. She also works collaboratively as part of Comet Collab and Re:Use Collective, both initiatives dedicated to sustainable art practices, and was the founding director of Comet Project Space.
